Submitting data

Hi, I am new here and I am having difficulty getting my data into the correct csv format for uploading. My URN is 7097. Please could someone take a look at the attached file as downloaded from the Logic Energy web portal and tell me how to edit it in Excel? Whenever I try to put it in the correct format (URN,Date,Time, Reading) the reading ends up as a text string. I have the option to download as a CSV but it's not in the right format either. Thanks.

Hi Toberwine,

If the CSV download is in the same format as the one you posted, then I would suggest downloading the CSV then do the following.

When opening it specify that separators can be a space or tab.
Once opened, insert a new column A.
Delete the top two rows (1 and 2).
Overwrite the third row with the column headings: URN,Date,Time and Reading.
Scroll down to the bottom of the data. Delete the last row with the ‘Total count:…’.
Type your URN into cell A2 (inder URN).
Fill down column A with your URN.

Save the file in CSV format
It should now be ready for upload to the MgDB site

NB a date format of dd/mm/yyyy (eg. 06/12/2014) should also be acceptable.

Thanks Aldous I have figured out how to do it now. I had to make sure I was downloading the right data in the first place (so that I had cumulative readings) and then I had to download it as an Excel file rather than a csv so that I had the options of separating the data. I then added the URN column, opened the file in Wordpad and edited the readings to get rid of spurious quotation marks.

Why have you changed the template for submitting data readings. Now I have type in the full five digit number rather than just change the last two and search to change the date instead of clicking on the calendar. Simples

Do you mean you'd like the reading field to initialise to the last submitted reading? I'll see what I can do.

The calendar picker is slightly more complicated - I'll add this to the list of requested enhancements but the list is fairly long so it may be a couple of months.

Topic changed from ‘General Discussion’ to ‘MgDb site use, website feature requests etc.’

I've modified the add reading page to remember the last set of inputs after you click submit…

If you load the page from elsewhere (e.g. from the My PV page) then it'll initialise the date and time to now and the reading to your max cumulative reading so far.

Because this makes it harder to spot that a reading has been successfully entered, I've added a pop up confirmation after you click submit.

As with any new feature, please let us know ASAP if you spot anything not working quite right.

Regards

There's a button in the reading reminder email we send at the end of each month
