My PV installation came with an “eco-eye” monitor.  I believe that I am reasonably PC and internet savvy but I gave up in the end trying to get it to report sensibly.  It has since become an museum piece.

My installer has agreed to replace it with a system that can provide readings to Microgen automatically even if the PC is not active - I believe that such (multi-component?) systems exist but that the choice is anything but simple.

Can anyone provide any detailed positive recommendations preferably based on personal experience? Tks

I have the Geo Chorus which is supposed to provide 3 readings: generation, grid import and usage. The first 2 are accurate as they use an optical sensor to pick up the led on the meter. The 3rd (usage) however can be inaccurate as it uses a CT clamp.

the chorus is paired with a web unit which transmits the data to Geo's website. No idea how easy it would be to get it to feed other sites.

Other than the usage figures being wildly out, i like the chorus, but it isnt one of the cheap options.

currently, i'm happily making manual uploads of end of day readings to microgen and PVoutput sites.

Has anyone had experience of the “Current Cost System” (??) and the various components that apparently are necessary to get it to work (automatically)??

Hi,

I am sorry to hear that you have had problems with your Eco-eye and would be happy to get you going. Could you send an email to peter@eco-eye.com or call us with details and I will see what we can do.

Best regards

Peter

Thanks for the offer but you may not remember that we spent a lot of time a year ago trying to get the system to work in my set-up.  Given endless patience and IT expertise I dare say that it might work, but I concluded that if I wanted a simply DIY plug-and-play-and-forget system the eco-eye was not for me.  I have heard third hand reports that the “Current Cost” system (and possibly others) does this, and provides automatic uploads to Microgen without user intervention, and this is what I am trying to achieve. I am deeply in debt to Microgen for outstanding past readings!!
